Message from our director

The essence of Birthright is love. When reflecting on what we do at Birthright, the above statement says it all. It seems very simple and yet truly powerful.

Every opportunity we have had this year to support women facing unplanned pregnancies has brought
so much joy to our hearts. By listening with care and genuine love, light is brought to the heavy worried
hearts, teary eyes, and hopeless faces of our clients.

This year our reward was seeing eight smiling babies born to our clients and these new moms remembering, with a smile of gratitude and happiness, when they first came to us. These moments are priceless.

To hear these moms say that birthright is like a family to them. fuels us to continue. It makes us realize with amazement what our small group of volunteers can do just by being there with a loving heart ready to listen, to answer phone calls, to give supplies like maternity clothing, baby items, grocery cards, and much more, depending on individual needs, and to assist with medical and housing situations.

I want to thank all of you volunteers and donors for your commitment, loyalty, and love for the Birthright ministry this past year. Your participation in the walkathon in June was a meaningful way to motivate us to continue our work and promote our mission.

Two of our volunteers also had the opportunity to attend the International Birthright Convention held in Phoenix, Arizona. As inspired by other chapters of Birthright, our moms will create a group to support each other and share helpful information regarding resources, etc.

We have had ups and downs, but the need is there. With prayers and God’s help, we have managed to keep the office open these 52 years.

May we continue to help these women and babies in crisis pregnancy situations in these challenging times? Every woman has the right to give birth, and every baby has the right to be born.

Gratefully,
Adalgiza Arango, Director

Stories of hope

Stories from our Birthright Vancouver clients

“I first came to the Birthright office about a week after I found out about my
unplanned pregnancy and escaped an abusive partner. I was scared and
conflicted – I wanted my baby to live, but had no practical support in sight for
taking that path. I was encouraged to terminate my pregnancy by the people
around me.
That was the simple solution so that we could all continue our hedonistic
lifestyles. I could continue to live independently, and not burden others with a
lone mother and child. After years of living in an unhealthy way, this baby came
as my saving grace to change everything.
When I could not see the worth in my own life, I was given this new life to
nourish and protect, and I had a newfound purpose in my existence. The future
was unclear but I had a bit of faith left. I was looking for people who were on our
team, and I remembered Birthright. I had purchased Birthright Fudge and
participated in fundraising in what feels like a lifetime ago. Now reaching out
felt a little awkward, but that soon was relieved. I had found a safe space for me
and my child to continue in the direction where we were headed.
Thank you Birthright, for all of your continued support.

“Thank you, Birthright, for taking my hand and guiding me when my world fell
apart, and I felt completely lost. You were the light that helped me find my way
again.
When my life completely changed, and I did not know how to move forward,
you were there. Because of you, my baby has warm clothes, food to eat, and a
roof over our heads. You did not just provide help—you gave us hope.
Even though I am far from my family, you have become like family to me. You
have stood by me, cheering me on when I doubted myself and comforting me
when I felt overwhelmed. From the first days of my pregnancy to now, you
have been part of our story, watching my baby grow.
You have shown me that being a mom is more than just the hard days—it is
also about love, strength, and finding joy in the little moments. You have
helped me see that I am strong, even when I doubted myself.
No matter how much time passes, I will never be able to thank you enough.
Your kindness and support have changed our lives forever. Thank you for being
there for us, for believing in us, and for making me feel like I am never truly
alone. Thank you for making me feel seen, supported, and loved. Thank you for
being a part of our story and for making motherhood such a beautiful journey.”

Story from a volunteer

One of the very first clients I met came in during my training. She was 44 years old and very distraught about her pregnancy. She and her husband had tried for several years to conceive a child without any success and had by this time given up and become more involved in various other projects. Now a baby had decided to show up at a very inconvenient time! Moreover, she worried about potential greater risks surrounding childbirth at an
older age. The volunteer I was training with listened to all her concerns, answered some of the questions that were driving her fears, and provided gentle support and encouragement. Over time, the woman began to see her pregnancy more positively. And at the end of nine months, she had a healthy newborn baby who quickly became an extremely popular focal point of her and her husband’s extended family!

Why I volunteer:

To help women in crisis pregnancy situations. I enjoyed the face-to-face relationship and encouraging them to continue in this difficult time. We are there every step of the way.
